Your rosary combines beads with metal parts. With a little care, it will stay beautiful through years of daily prayer.
- Keep it in its pouch or box when not in use, away from direct sunlight and moisture.
- Wipe the beads and the crucifix with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid water, perfume and cleaning solutions, especially on wood, scented or glass beads.
- Sterling silver parts can be brightened with a soft polishing cloth. Leave oxidized (antiqued) details as they are - the dark finish is intentional.
- Let the rosary hang freely or lay it flat rather than pulling the chain tight, so the links keep their shape.

How a rosary is measured
| Measurement | What it means |
|---|---|
| Total length | From the crucifix to the top of the loop, laid flat. Most full rosaries are about 16–22 in (40–55 cm). A rosary is held in the hand or draped, not worn as a necklace, so the length is about feel, not fit. |
| Bead diameter | The width of each bead. 6 mm beads feel light and travel well; 8 mm beads are easier to count by touch and sit well in larger hands. |
| Crucifix size | Height × width of the crucifix at the end of the rosary. |
| Centerpiece | The medal where the five decades meet. On many of our rosaries it holds a small vial of Jordan River water or a Holy Land medallion. |
Choosing for a gift
- First Communion or a child: 6 mm beads and a lighter crucifix are easy for small hands.
- Daily prayer: 8 mm beads, or wood or glass beads with a little texture, are the most comfortable to count.
- Keepsake or display: mother of pearl, crystal and sterling silver rosaries are chosen for the way they catch the light.
- For him: black or dark wood beads with a sterling silver or oxidized crucifix.
